‘The Walking Dead”s fan favorite Jerry, Cooper Andrews is the latest addition to the cast of ‘Shazam!’.  He will portray Victor Vasquez, the foster father of Billy Batson and presumably his foster siblings, Mary Bromfield, Eugene Choi, Darla Dudley, Freddy Freeman and Pedro Peña.

Andrews joins Asher Angel, who plays Billy, Zachary Levi, who is Billy’s adult super human alter ego Shazam, plus Jovan Armand (Pedro Peña), Ian Chen (Eugene Choi), Jack Dylan Grazer (Freddie Freeman), Grace Fulton (Mary Marvel) and David J. MacNeil (Mr. Bryer).  Mark Strong is rumored to be playing villain Doctor Thaddeus Sivana, but that has still not been confirmed.

‘Shazam!’ centers on a boy, Billy Batson, who can change into an adult superhero, Shazam, by saying that name.  It appears that Fulton is playing Mary Marvel, the adult superhero form of Billy’s long-lost twin sister Mary Bromfield (Batson), whose casting has not been announced.  Also, the other kids wind up with super powers as well, but it’s unknown if the film will follow that development.

In the comics, Victor Vasquez has an antagonistic relationship with Mr. Bryer, the father of two bullies that torment Victor’s foster children.  In the comics, Victor is married to Rosa Vasquez.  If she appears in the film, her casting has not yet been announced.  Both Victor and Rosa were also orphans, which is why they serve as foster parents themselves.

David F. Sandberg is directing the movie for Warner Brothers, based on the DC Comics characters.  Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke penned the script.

Prior to his role as King Ezekiel’s right-hand man Jerry on ‘The Walking Dead’, Andrews had a recurring role as Yo-Yo Engberk on another AMC series, ‘Halt and Catch Fire’.  He has also appeared on the programs ‘Limitless’, ‘Hawaii Five-O’ and ‘S.W.A.T.’ and in the movies ‘Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk’, ‘Thin Ice’ and the upcoming ‘Den of Thieves’.

Production on ‘Shazam!’ is set to begin in early 2018 to be released on April 5, 2019.

Are you excited that Cooper Andrews will play a role in the ‘Shazam!’ film?
