Faithe Herman

‘This Is Us’ star Faithe Herman is the latest foster sibling added to Warner Brothers’ ‘Shazam!’.  Her role wasn’t revealed, beyond her being a friend of the main character, Billy Batson (played by Asher Angel), but taking one look at her and it’s obvious she will be playing Darla Dudley, the youngest and most innocent of the foster children taken in by Victor and Rosa Vasquez.

At her young age, Herman is pretty much only known for her role as Annie Pearson on the hit drama ‘This Is Us’, but she has also appeared on ‘Criminal Minds’ and in Joseph Kahn’s rap battle film ‘Bodied’ and she has a role in the upcoming thriller ‘Doe’.

‘Shazam!’ focuses on a young boy that gains the magical power to turn into an adult superhero by saying the mystic word ‘Shazam!”.  He is also known by that name.  Zachary Levi portrays the adult half of this equation.  Orphan Billy comes under the care of Victor Vasquez (played by Cooper Andrews) and his wife Rosa, both orphans themselves.  The Vasquezes already have several foster children, Darla, Mary Bromfeld, Eugene Choi (Ian Chen), Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer) and Pedro Peña (Jovan Armand).

The casting of Mary has not been announced, although it appears that Grace Fulton is playing her adult alter ego, Mary Marvel.  In ‘Flashpoint’/The New 52, all of the Vasquezes’ foster children share the Shazam! powers.  While the rest become adults, for some reason Darla remains a little girl.  Though they all share the same basic powers, Darla has the added ability of super speed.  It’s unclear, however, if the movie will follow the same events, but the possibility of Mary having her super alter ego makes it sound possible.

David J. MacNeil portrays the father of two bullies, Mr. Bryer.  Mark Strong is rumored to be playing villain Doctor Thaddeus Sivana.

David F. Sandberg is directing the movie based on a script by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke.

Production on ‘Shazam!’ is set to begin in early 2018 for an April 5, 2019, release.
