Conan The Barbarian

Each year it seems less likely that we’ll get another ‘Conan‘ movie but the consolation prize is that Amazon is all set to bring us a ‘Conan the Barbarian’ television series! Even better is that the creative team behind adapting Robert E. Howard’s iconic work is full of talent. The three who are driving the project are Ryan Condal (‘Colony’), Miguel Sapochnik (‘Game of Thrones‘), and Warren Littlefield (‘Fargo,’ ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’). To say that there is a rock star team guiding the project is a bit of an understatement.

Condal is on writing duties for the project and gives some details about the new series:

“Conan retells the classic character’s story via a return to his literary origins. Driven out of his tribal homelands, Conan wanders the mysterious and treacherous world of civilization where he searches for purpose in a place that rejects him as a mindless savage.”

I’m sure that just as we’ve seen in the books and on the big screen that his skills as a warrior will shine when the opportunity arises, and we slowly see him build an army and conquer all of his foes.

Sapochnik will be directing the series with Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler who are also attached as executive producers.

Amazon is working hard to get into the fantasy genre with a ‘Lord of the Rings‘ series and now this. I’m sure they feel that there will be an opening in the market with ‘Game of Thrones‘ coming to an end, even with the multiple spinoff shows that are in various forms of development.

Are you excited to hear about a new take on ‘Conan’ in the works that will be an ongoing series? Do you think that this will compliment Amazon’s entrance into fantasy with ‘Lord of the Rings’? Share your thoughts below!
