We finally have a premiere date for Freeform’s Marvel Comics adaptation ‘Cloak & Dagger’. The series was first announced back in April of 2016, so the journey from concept to screen has been pretty lengthy. But it seems that things have finally come together as the network has announced that ‘Cloak & Dagger’ will debut on Thursday, June 7, at 8 pm EST. Freeform initially ordered ten episodes for the first season. Last summer, rumors surfaced that Freeform was already planning to order a second season before the first had even premiered, but so far that hasn’t been confirmed. We do know that Freeform passed on a possible companion series, ‘The New Warriors’, possibly in order to focus its attention on ‘Cloak & Dagger’.
The TV show was created by Joe Pokaski (‘Heroes’) who wrote the script for the pilot. Gina Prince-Bythewood (‘Beyond the Lights’)directed the pilot. Olivia Holt portrays Tandy Bowen and Aubrey Joseph plays Tyrone Johnson. The two teens are drawn together romantically, but that is complicated when they discover they have superpowers — Tandy can emit light daggers, while Ty can engulf others in darkness. The series films in New Orleans, LA.
Freeform has released the first clip from the series showing the first meeting between the two leads and while it at first seems like the typical meet-cute, things quickly turn sideways. You can check it out below:
‘Cloak & Dagger’ also stars: Andrea Roth as Melissa Bowen, Tandy’s mother; Gloria Reuben as Adina Johnson, Ty’s mother; Miles Mussenden as Michael Johnson, Ty’s father; Carl Lundstedt as Liam, Tandy’s boyfriend and criminal partner; James Saito as Bernard Sanjo, Ty’s close friend; and J.D. Evermore as Connors, a detective with a secret.
At this time, there are no plans for ‘Cloak & Dagger’ to cross over with any existing Marvel TV properties, so the show will be allowed to grow and find its footing on its own.
So far, what do you think? How does Freeform’s ‘Cloak & Dagger’ look?
