HBO’s upcoming space comedy ‘Avenue 5’ has added two recurring cast members, Kyle Bornheimer, and Jessica St. Clair.  Hugh Laurie stars in the series, created by Armando Iannucci (‘Veep’), about a starfaring luxury ship, set 40 years in the future.

Bornheimer and St. Clair will play a married couple, Doug and Mia, whose marriage is falling apart.  They decide to take a “space-cation” in hopes of salvaging their relationship, but that plan fails.  “Doug is bitter, broken, and overly sensitive. After giving up his own dreams to follow Mia’s, rejected Doug is now in the midst of a midlife crisis.”  “Now trapped together sharing a tiny cabin, the tedium of Space is beginning to seriously grate on Mia.”

With two episodes left to film, the set of ‘Avenue 5’ was recently damaged by a raging fire.  That damage appears to be extensive enough that writers and producers are brainstorming ideas for ways to complete the first series.

‘Avenue 5’ is the name of a large luxury spaceship, which serves as the primary setting for the series.  Laurie portrays the Captain, Ryan Clark.  The cast also includes: Suzy Nakamura as Iris Kimura, an associate owner of Avenue 5; Rebecca Front as Karen Kelly, a passenger; Zach Woods as Matt Spencer, Head of Customer Relations; Josh Gad as Herman Judd, billionaire owner of Avenue 5; Nikki Amuka-Bird as Rav Mulcair, head of Mission Control; Lenora Crichlow as Billie McEvoy, second engineer; Ethan Phillips as Spike Williams, a former astronaut who is now a womanizing alcoholic; and Himesh Patel as Jordan Hatwal, a stand up comedian who takes up an eight week residency on Avenue 5.

Bornheimer popped up on St. Clair’s former TV series ‘Playing House’, and both appeared in the film ‘She’s Out of My League’.  Bornheimer guested on St. Clair’s comedy podcast ‘Womp It Up!’.

Bornheimer had the recurring role of Teddy Wells on ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ and Jack Briggs on ‘Casual’.  He has also appeared on numerous series such as ‘Drunk History’, ‘Speechless’, ‘Love’, ‘Will & Grace’, and ‘Modern Family’.

St. Clair most recently co-starred on the sitcom “American Housewife’ as Chloe Brown Mueller and as Captain Lade’e on Youtube’s ‘Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television’.  She has also recently appeared on ‘Man with a Plan’, ‘Bob’s Burgers’, ‘American Dad!’, and ‘Arrested Development’.
