I know we initially announced Cloak & Dagger‘ as an April Fool’s Joke, but this news may not doesn’t mean bode well for the Marvel/Freeform series. The good nes is that Joe Pokaski (‘Daredevil’,’Heroes’) will be the showrunner, however, the network is delaying the release. When it was initially announced, we were curious at the different take on the characters they were going with but soon after the initial announcement, things went dark on any news for the series. Fortunately, there is a light in the darkness with the showrunner being announced but a delayed release date does put a slight damper on things.
Still, Pokaski has a history with Marvel and superheroes in general so there is a chance this delay until a Winter 2018 release is just due to the network making sure it has all of its ducks in a row. It sounds as if Pokaski is just rewriting his initial script for the series and likely we’ll have more announcements for both writers and directors in the near future.
The series will follow teenagers Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen who end up as Cloak and Dagger. In the comics, the two are runaways who are experimented upon by criminals which is what gives them their power though with the network of choice I’m expecting a much larger focus on a romantic interest between the two. Dagger has the ability to both heal her friends and create daggers out of light while Cloak can teleport and pull his enemies into the darkness of his cloak.
Are you looking forward to a young adult take on ‘Cloak & Dagger’ or do you think Freeform wasn’t the new network for a Marvel-based series to show up on? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
This exciting new series is an adaptation of the beloved Marvel characters aimed squarely at young adults. This live-action interracial romance follows Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart—but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.
‘Cloak & Dagger’ will premiere on Freeform in the Winter of 2018.
