Thanks to Paramount Pictures sharing their upcoming slate of releases, we now know four dates that you’ll need to mark on your calendars if you want to catch these 4 films! The release dates for ‘Dungeons & Dragons‘, ‘G.I. Joe’, ‘Micronauts’ and a currently untitled Hasbro movie which will likely also be a genre film have been revealed! We know that the studio signed a new deal with Hasbro for producing and distributing multiple potential blockbusters that are based on the various toys and properties and now new details are starting to surface. With ‘Transformers’ being “Paramount’s highest-grossing franchise” at this time, it should come as no surprise that they’d want to mine more of Hasbro properties or that Hasbro would want an excuse to sell more toys!
So what can we expect? First off, there is a new G.I. Joe that will be set to come out on March 27th, 2020 and is the first of these projects. Fans hoping to see a continuation of the last two installments are going to be sad as this will be a reboot which has yet to find a writer or director. Being a couple years out that shouldn’t be too much of an issue right now and it’ll be interesting to see if this new team will have direct ties to the ‘Transformers’ franchise allowing for a cinematic universe as has previously been discussed.
Next up is ‘Micronauts’ due on October 16th, 2020. This film was originally announced in 2015 as part of the potential cinematic universe mentioned above. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions was previously behind it and we’ll see if this film is still planning on being involved with the other films or a standalone.
Next up is ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ which is set for July 23rd, 2021. We don’t know if this is the same film which Joe Manganiello was working on a script for previously, but it is the only film here which could potentially start its own cinematic universe and not be tied to the one above.
Finally, there is an untitled Paramount and Hasbro film due out on October 1st, 2021. As this list isn’t for the Transformers films and seems too early to be a G.I. Joe sequel, it wouldn’t surprise me if it was somehow tied to the cinematic universe which they are trying to create. Previously, they had announced an interest in also tying in ‘M.A.S.K.’, ‘Visionaries’, and ‘ROM’ which this could potentially be one of those.
Which of these new Paramount Pictures movies are you most looking forward to? Do you think that they’ll be leading into the previously announced cinematic universe or will these all be standalone movies? Share your thoughts below!
