Warner Brothers appears to finally be casting for ‘Dungeons & Dragons‘ and the first actor they are in talks with for the film is Ansel Elgort (‘The Fault in Our Stars’,’Divergent‘). While still a newer actor, with the ‘Divergent’ series and ‘Carrie‘ under his belt, he is well versed in genre films and could bring some fun talent to the part. This would be his first full-fledged fantasy movie and starring role.

While director Rob Letterman already has a script by David Leslie Johnson, it is unclear what direction the film itself might be going. The very basis of this world could give us a darker to a lighthearted story and it will be important for them to set the tone right off the bat as this is a film that could quite easily launch a cinematic universe as we’re seeing ‘Warcraft‘ doing due to its high box office sales in China.

Producer Roy Lee has stated about the film:

“This new Dungeons & Dragons will be a Guardians of the Galaxy-tone movie in a Tolkien-like universe. Because when you think of all the Hobbit movies and The Lord of the Rings, they have an earnestness to them, and to see something fun, a Raiders romp inside that world, I feel is something the audience has not seen before.”

High fantasy with human elements and a bit of humor is what this sounds like. Personally, I’m excited for this to happen. I’d love to see a new ongoing fantasy franchise and with ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ being one of the cornerstones of the modern fantasy series it seems fitting if Warner Brothers can pull it off to launch their own fantasy universe for us to play in.

Are you looking forward to ‘Dungeons & Dragons’? Do you think that Ansel Elgort would be a great lead character? What class do you think they’ll be casting him as? Share your thoughts below!
