venom movie

The non-Spider-Man movies are being produced in full force over at Sony and while not many details have been shared so far we have learned which two classic story arcs the ‘Venom’ movie will be based on! While the first trailer for ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ was debuted at Comic-Con Experience 2017, the news about ‘Venom‘ came from as director Ruben Fleischer (‘Zombieland’) who popped in through a live feed to share the news and also tease Tom Hardy who appeared for a second at the very end.

So which two comic runs are you going to need to either read or brush up on to get an idea of what to expect? “Lethal Protector” and “Planet of the Symbiotes.” The first was a six-issue run from way back from 1993 which was delivered to us by David Michelinie and Mark Bagley. In it, Peter Parker and Eddie Brock come up with a truce as long as Venom doesn’t commit any crimes. To do that, we see Brock packing his bags and moving to San Francisco to fight crime. In the end, the two have to team up to take out five new symbiotes which have spawned.

Two years later, “Plant of the Symbiotes” came out which was also penned by Michelinie though instead of a ‘Venom’ comic this was an ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ story arc. In it, an army of symbiotes have come and Venom, Scarlet Spider, and our favorite webhead had to work together to stop this invasion.

Likely this means that we’ll see a California based symbiote invasion which Brock will need to stop. Rumors have had Carnage as the main villain which could mean that he is one of the symbiotes or the one in charge. With this news coming after Sony’s animated ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ trailer which also introduced the concept of the Multiverse maybe this is how Sony plans on tying things in with Spider-Man.

Are you happy to hear that these two story arcs are what the new film is going to be based on? Do you think Spider-Man will even be referenced in these films or will the movies occur without a Peter Parker having ever been involved in this new franchise? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
