Gwendoline ChristieOne of the stand out actors from ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ was Gwendoline Christie’s (‘Game of Thrones’) Captain Phasma and she was originally set to have even less screen time. Much like Boba Fett before her, the unique costume design was able to capture the imagination of audiences which has us eager to see her make an appearance in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘ and hopefully beyond! It likely helped that fans are thrilled with her role as Brienne of Tarth on ‘Game of Thrones’ and wanted her to be the amazing warrior that we’ve seen her be on HBO’s hit series.

That thought in mind also has me excited to see her wielding a killer new weapon in the new film.

We were able to get a few moments of glory in ‘The Force Awakens,’ but sadly her time was a bit short. However, before fans spoke out about how much they loved the character from early previews and likely as Christie showed off her amazing acting talents, the powers that be expanded her role. The commander of the First Order’s Stormtroopers shared that:

“When I was cast I was only supposed to be in the film for a couple of days. But then things evolved and the part expanded. It’s easily one of the best things that happened to me.”

Fans have not only been vocal about wanting to see more of Captain Phasma but we’ve even seen in the ‘Star Wars: Captain Phasma’ comic from Marvel that she was able to escape from the Starkiller Base and hopefully that means we’ll be seeing a lot more of her down the line! For those who wanted even more of her backstory, there was a novel released titled ‘Phasma’ by Delilah S. Dawson which did just that thanks to the “Journey to The Last Jedi” initiative.

There is no word if either her back story or escape will be explained in the upcoming film though as the studio has been deadest on making sure that canon was followed it would be great to see at least a name drop of either of these occurrences.

Are you glad to hear that Gwendoline Christie was able to get more screen time as Captain Phasma in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’? Since she survives will you be thrilled to see her pop up in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ and beyond? Share your thoughts below!
