hellboy

We’ve been dying to know when David Harbour (‘Stranger Things’) would finally be smashing onto the big screen as the Right Hand of Doom in the ‘Hellboy‘ reboot and now we know! Thanks to Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment we’ve learned that everyone needs to mark their calendars for January 11th, 2019 to check out this new take on Red as he saves the world once again. The film is set to take a departure from the original two Guillermo Del Toro films and it sounds like director Neil Marshall (‘The Descent’,’Game of Thrones’) wants to keep it closer to Mike Mignola‘s source material.

This change of tone may very well get on the nerves of all of us who loved Ron Perlman who made the role his own, but I’m willing to give this one a chance. Mignola’s world has a rich history and could easily be expanded into a fully realized franchise which, if done right, sounds a lot better than seeing a movie every four years.

Of course if Marshall doesn’t pull it off we’re all going to be wanting the Son of the Fallen One to take his fist and do unspeakable things with it. That’s fandom though, right?

However, with a cast that includes Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, and Daniel Dae Kim with early plot points and our first look at Harbour, you almost can’t help but be excited. It is clearly based around elements which would later play heavily into the aspects that lead into the Death of Hellboy and if they do just want to do a trilogy instead of expanding into a fully realized B.P.R.D. franchise, this could be a great way to run with for just a trilogy.

Are you planning on checking out ‘Hellboy’ when it is released in January of 2019? Do you feel that the new iteration will be on level with, surpass, or be a disappointment compared to the original two films? Share your thoughts below!
