Jeff Goldblum thor: ragnarok

The world of Marvel Comics is vast and filled with a plethora of characters. Unless you’re some kind of walking Marvel encyclopedia, then it’s hard to know about each and every one of them. And thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, True Believers of all ages (whether they’ve had plenty of experience with the comics or not) can get to know such relatively obscure characters as the Inhumans, the New Warriors, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and more. Now, with Taika Waititi’s ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ on the way, we’re set to meet a whole collection of new characters with storied histories, including an Elder of the Universe known as The Grandmaster. But before he makes his live-action debut on the big screen as part of the MCU, Jeff Goldblum is giving fans a history lesson about this being with a penchant for extravagant gladiatorial contests.

While speaking with Cinema Blend during a recent press junket for the Asgardian Avenger’s next big adventure, the beloved actor shared what he discovered about the Grandmaster’s backstory while doing his research for the role. From his relationship with Benicio del Toro’s Collector from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ to his great power to Neil deGrasse Tyson (yup, he goes there), Goldblum gives us a small glimpse at his quite eccentric character. And this time, we mean the actual character he’s playing rather than the actor himself. Either way, check out his introduction to The Grandmaster in the video below, followed by the official synopsis of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’:

“Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!”

What do you think about Jeff Goldblum’s description of The Grandmaster? Are you more excited to meet this powerful being in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’? And is it possible to love an actor more than we should all love the national treasure that is Jeff Goldblum? Let us know in the comments.

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ starring Chris Hemsworth, Karl Urban, Jeff Goldblum, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, and Mark Ruffalo strikes theaters on November 3, 2017.
