Thor: Ragnarok Taika Waititi

Marvel’s next-up offering, ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ is garnering very positive praise from early reviews, and has been piquing fans’ interest since its 1980s-retro-style trailers first started dropping a few months back.

The film’s director, Taika Waititi, was more of an “indie” director before landing the opportunity to direct this third installment in the Thor saga.  His biggest claims to fame were helming the horror/comedy ‘What We Do in the Shadows,’ among other quirky films like ‘Eagle vs. Shark.’

From initial reports, it may very well be that Waititi has a blockbuster hit on his hands, which naturally begs the question: what’s next for him?  If you’ve seen any of his press-tour interviews with Chris Hemsworth for the new film, you’ll know that the man has a wicked sarcastic wit and a healthy dose of dry humor to him, so getting a straight answer was actually a pretty tough assignment.  Fortunately, in a recent interview he did manage to give a fairly direct answer (although he did get a little sardonic at the end):

“I would like to come back and work with Marvel any time, because I think they’re a fantastic studio, and we had a great time working together. And they were very supportive of me, and my vision. They kind of gave me a lot of free reign, but also had a lot of ideas as well. A very collaborative company. I’d love to do another Thor film, because I feel like I’ve established a really great thing with these guys, and friendship. And I don’t really like any of the other characters.”

A second consecutive Waititi ‘Thor’ film would certainly be a turning point for the series, as the first two films varied wildly in tone and presentation, with the original being helmed by Kenneth Branagh and Alan Taylor taking over for the sequel, ‘Thor: The Dark World.’

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ will open in US theaters on November 3, 2017.
