Based on Marvel’s popular teen comic book series, Hulu’s ‘Runaways’ stars the children of powerful super villains who must go on the run when they realize what their parents are truly all about.  The comic, written by Brian K. Vaughn, was a huge smash and appealed to readers of all ages, male and female.  After years of development, a movie based on the series was finally shelved, allowing Hulu to bring the show to TV instead.  The first publicity photo of the main cast was revealed a few months ago, but now with the show set to begin in November, we have our first still images from the series, showcasing each character.

Deviating from the comics, it appears the main character on the TV series is Chase Stein, played by Gregg Sulkin.  Chase is described as a star athlete– as evidenced in the photo above– with a knack for engineering, befitting the offspring of two mad scientists.  In the comics, he’s kind of a dumbass, so it should be interesting to see how they balance those two sides of his persona.

Lyrica Okano portrays the team’s resident witch-in-training, Nico Minaru, who acts as the leader in the comics.  Her parents are powerful dark wizards.  Nico is also pretty dark… well her wardrobe is anyway.  She’s a goth.

Karolina Dean (Virginia Gardner) discovers that like her parents, she is an alien of the race called Majesdanians.  Karolina has the power to absorb and redirect solar energy and fly.  She is known for being extremely environmentally conscious, a vegan and a lesbian.

Rhenzy Feliz portrays Alex Wilder, the prodigy son of mob bosses.  He serves as the team’s master strategist and is instrumental in bringing them together as a unit.  But is their bond tighter than his familial connections?

Hands-down the most popular character from the comics was wry, sarcastic Gert Yorkes, played by Ariela Barer on the show.  Her parents are time travelers, which is how she acquired her pet dinosaur Old Lace, with whom she shares a telepathic bond.

The youngest member of the group is Molly Hernandez, portrayed by Allegra Acosta.  With the possible exception of Karolina, Molly’s powers are probably the most obvious and useful.  While her parents are telepathic mutants, Molly has super strength and invulnerability.  It should be noted that it appears that the TV version of Molly is older than the youngster in the books.

As Josh Schwartz, who created the series with Stephanie Savage, describes the show’s premise, “Every teenager thinks their parents are evil. What if your parents actually were?”

Speaking of those evil parents, here is our first glimpse of them:  Brigid Branagh (Stacey Yorkes), Kevin Weisman (Dale Yorkes), James Marsters (Victor Stein), Ryan Sands (Geoffrey Wilder), Ever Carradine (Janet Stein), Angel Parker (Catherine Wilder), Annie Wersching (Leslie Dean), James Yaegashi (Robert Minoru) and Brittany Ishibashi (Tina Minoru) — otherwise known as The Pride.

Runaways‘ becomes available on Hulu on November 21st, 2017.  Are you ready to go on the run with this series?
