We all suspected that Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ would be in space when they came back for a fifth season on ABC with Coulson looking out to the stars when the fourth season came to a close, and now we have more proof! The network along with Marvel TV released a brand new teaser poster for the upcoming season, and it pretty much confirms what we’ve already been teased. The agents will be in space when they return, and it won’t be some kind of funky simulation!
This look at the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo not only appears to be on what looks to be a vehicle or base of some kind but the window to the right clearly shows another view of outer space. Yes, those stars are teasing something cosmic is coming!
Chances are this new setting is going to either introduce us to S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation and Response Department) or see the agency evolve into it with Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson leading the team! Honestly, I’m hoping they introduce everyone to Abigail Brand who would be the perfect counterpoint to Coulson in just about every way possible. For those unfamiliar with Brand, she is the head of S.W.O.R.D. and always has an answer to anything that anyone throws at her.
Also, with a cosmic setting, it seems ripe for an easy connection to both Marvel Studios’ upcoming ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’ The films might no longer believe that “It’s All Connected” but we’ve seen references to the events in the cinematic universe throughout the series, and I suspect there will be another one shown here. Also, being in space would be the perfect way to bring the ‘Inhumans‘ into the mix in case the series flops and they’d still like to keep them around.
The inhuman city of Attilan is on the moon after all.
