It appears that Jason Woodrue will appear as a major villain on DC Universe’s ‘Swamp Thing’ and he might be played by Kevin Durand.  This character debuted in 1962 as an enemy of The Atom, before evolving into the plant-like Floronic Man, at which point he became a major figure in the ‘Swamp Thing’ comic book.  John Glover portrayed Woodrue in the 1997 movie ‘Batman and Robin’.

On ‘Swamp Thing’ Woodrue will appear in his human form, at least in the beginning.  Woodrue will be a recurring guest star and is described as a “slick and cunning scientist” determined to gain control of The Green, the source of all plant life in the DC Universe.

Durand hasn’t officially been cast but is said to be in talks.  If he signs on, he joins Will Patton as another villain, Avery Sunderland.  In the comics, Sunderland hired Woodrue to investigate the Swamp Thing, but Woodrue wound up betraying him, trapping him in a room with the swamp creature.

Durand was most recently seen on the HBO series ‘Ballers’ and in the biopic ‘Bigger’ about the lives of bodybuilding pioneers Joe and Ben Weider.  He may be best known for starring in all four seasons of ‘The Strain’.  Prior to that, he appeared on ‘Vikings’, ‘American Dad!’ and ‘Trial & Error’.

Andy Bean and Derek Mears will share the role of the Swamp Thing, with Bean appearing as his human form, Alec Holland and Mears appearing as his plant-based monster form.  Crystal Reed stars as the show’s female lead Abby Arcane.  The cast also includes Jennifer Beals as Sheriff Lucilia Cable and Maria Sten as Abby’s childhood best friend Liz Tremayne.  Virginia Madsen appears as an original character, Maria Sunderland, the wife of Avery.  Jeryl Prescott will appear as blind psychic Madame Xanadu.

Production on the series is expected to begin in the next few weeks.

‘Swamp Thing’ is expected to premiere on DC Universe in late May or early June of 2019.
