It’s been reported that the character Ann Weying will feature in Sony’s upcoming ‘Venom’ which stars Tom Hardy as Marvel’s famous villain/anti-hero. In the comics, Weying is Venom/Eddie Brock’s ex-wife. She was a successful lawyer and at one point became She-Venom or the Bride of Venom after merging with the symbiote. Unfortunately, this led to a tragic ending.
‘Venom’ will feature Carnage as the main villain another symbiote host, serial killer Cletus Kasady. So that’s two symbiotes right there. It’s probably doubtful there will be a third thrown into the mix, so Weying will most likely just be there as a supporting character and possible romantic interest.
Weying has not yet been officially confirmed, so neither her nor Carnage’s casting has been announced.
Right now, there is some ambiguity regarding ‘Venom’. Sony’s Amy Pascal stated that ‘Venom’ would take place in the same reality as ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’… which is, of course, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, she also implied that Peter Parker may not actually appear in ‘Venom’ or in the also announced ‘Silver & Black’ movie which will showcase Silver Sable and Black Cat. And it’s basically a given that no existing Marvel movie characters will be in either, because unlike ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ those won’t be co-productions with Marvel Studios.
It is expected that ‘Venom’ will be based on the ‘Ultimate’ version of that character, in which the Venom symbiote was created by the fathers of Eddie Brock and Peter Parker, rather than the regular 616-Universe version, where it was an alien lifeform that Spider-Man discovered during the ‘Secret Wars’ miniseries.
At any rate, Ruben Fleischer is currently slated to direct ‘Venom’. Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg are currently working on the script, with plans in place to start production in the fall. (Gina Prince-Bythewood is attached to ‘Silver & Black’.) ‘Venom’ has been scheduled for release on October 5th, 2018.
