Readers of ‘The Walking Dead‘ may suspect what is coming up when the show returns this Fall for the eighth season but a new behind-the-scenes photo which was sent from the set appears to have confirmed it.
With Negan having almost taken down Andrew Lincoln‘s Rick Grimes in the Season 7 finale, it should be obvious that the Saviors and those from Alexandria are about to head to war though exactly how it happens is still a mystery. While we’re all expecting a Rick and Negan face off on more even terms, there are going to be a few surprises coming up for those who haven’t read the comics and I suspect they are going to keep them a secret not just from Negan but the audience as well.
What we’re about to show is vague but it will contain spoilers so you’ve been warned!
The image itself came from Daniel Newman who plays the Kingdom guard Daniel. It was posted and deleted but showed both his character and Rick on the set for the Savior’s Sanctuary. Thankfully, the Internet never forgets:
“#AndrewLincoln is the best! Coolest guy. Congrats on #100 eps Andy!”

If you’re hoping that Rick showing up at the Sanctuary means a quick and easy fight, you’re sadly mistaken. At least, in the comics we see him gathering everyone from Alexandria, Hilltop, and The Kingdom and offering Negan a chance at surrender. I’m pretty sure anyone can guess how he responds to that. However, Rick has a plan in place just in case Negan says no and that is when an actual battle kicks off.
As the series tends to have all of their action in the bookends of the season I’m sure we’ll start off with a bang before another season of killing ratings by not having much happen until the finale. Hopefully, they’ll go back to actually having an ongoing story this year as showrunner Scott Gimple has stated that he plans on ending the episodes which spotlight a single character to develop them and get back to actually having an ongoing story as the first few seasons did.
Are you looking forward to the return of ‘The Walking Dead’? Do you think that this will be the season to win back viewers or will they keep making the same mistake that has been lowering ratings? Share your thoughts below!
