It was an interesting choice to cast Jude Law (‘Sherlock Holmes’,’Gattaca’) as a young Albus Dumbledore for ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2‘ and the actor’s first stop before jumping into the role is to sit down and talk to J.K. Rowling. Law has proven that not only can he tackle almost any kind of role over the years but that he likes to try and stay faithful to the source material. With Rowling enjoying having her work portrayed properly, this seems like a match made in heaven.

In a recent interview with BBC London, Law stated:

“My first port of call I hope is to meet J K Rowling and to talk exactly about that, and who [Dumbledore] is and who she wants him to be and learn a little bit more about her vision of this great man as a young man.”

This film will take place long before Dumbledore has risen to the position which we see him in the ‘Harry Potter’ novels and films so while there will be traces of who he is to become, this is still a younger man learning his way in the world. It is also unclear as for if to he’ll already be openly gay or in which film they might explore the romantic interest he holds for Johnny Depp’s Gellert Grindelwald. It will also be interesting to see how his relationship might be expanded with Newt.

Previously Rowling has stated that “This is obviously a five-part story, so there’s lots to unpack in that relationship” when it comes to the pair so while she may shed light on some of it, it is unlikely we’ll get the entire story in the second film.

Playing the younger iteration of Hogwart’s headmaster which was made iconic on the big screen by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon after Harris had passed away.
