Zack-Mastodon

We’re just over a week shy of Lionsgate’s big screen reboot of the ‘Power Rangers’ and fans still aren’t quite sure what to expect?  Will this be a deadly serious take on the franchise?  Or will there be elements of the fun cap of the original TV series?

Perhaps to answer that question, the studio has unveiled a fun new clip that shows the black Mastodon Zord in action, with the new Zack Taylor (Ludi Lin) behind the controls… not that he’s doing too well at maintaining control.

The clip also gives a glimpse at the other Power Rangers, although they are out of costume and perhaps more importantly, we get our first real look and listen to Bill Hader as Alpha-5.  There was some concern that the new design for the Ranger’s robotic sidekick was a little too alien-looking, but as we can see in this clip, Hader does capture the spirit of the original, right down to his signature “Ay-yi-yi!” exclamation.

Check out the clip below:

Fingers crossed, the new ‘Power Rangers’ will strike the right balance between the energetic fun of the original show but with a more modern, mature feel.

Saban’s ‘Power Rangers’ follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

‘Saban’s Power Rangers’ is directed by Dean Israelite and stars Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Bryan Cranston as Zordon, Bill Hader as Alpha-5, R.J. Cyler as Billy Cranston, Becky G. as Trini Kwan, Ludi Lin as Zack Taylor, Dacre Montgomery as Jason Scott and Naomi Scott as Kimberly Hart. The action kicks off on March 24, 2017.
