Disney began construction on ‘Star Wars’-themed additions to both Disneyland in Anaheim, California and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The Disneyland addition is the largest ever to that particular theme park, occupying 14 acres. As revealed last month by Disney CEO Bob Iger, these attractions will open in 2019, to coincide with the release of ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ the final installment of what is now being called the “Skywalker Saga,” or the core storyline, not counting the Anthology titles, like this past winter’s ‘Rogue One’ or the upcoming ‘Han Solo’ movie.
Among the attractions Disney has planned are life-sized replicas of the famous ships including the Millennium Falcon, which will factor into on of the main attractions to Star Wars Land.
According to a statement on Disney Parks Blog:
“We’re also creating two incredible new signature attractions: one that lets guests take the controls of Millennium Falcon on a customized secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
In addition to the Millennium Falcon, as you can see in the photo above and in the video below, another feature will be life-size AT-ATs! These hulking mechanisms were first seen on the frozen planet of Hoth in ‘The Empire Strikes Back’, before being shown again on the jungle moon of Endor in ‘Return of the Jedi’ and were just heavily featured in ‘Rogue One’.
Check out the concept art in the video for an idea of how these could work in real life:
As we reported a few months ago, Star Wars Land may not be included as part of regular Disney season passes.
Well, only two more years until we get a chance to live the fantasy of inhabiting the worlds of ‘Star Wars’ in person!
