SNL star Bill Hader is the latest addition to ‘Saban’s Power Rangers’. The comic/voice actor will portray Zordon’s faithful robot companion Alpha 5! It’s unclear if he will simply be providing the voice or if he will appear either in a practical suit or mo-cap/CGI, but… I kinda thought this movie was already filmed, so it’s most likely just the voice. Hader previously acted as a “voice consultant” for BB-8 in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’. He has also provided voice/mo-cap performances in ‘Finding Dory’, ‘Inside Out’, ‘The BFG’, ‘The Angry Birds Movie’, ‘Sausage Party’ and ‘South Park’ among other projects. He has also appeared in live action in ‘Trainwreck’ and most recently ‘Pop Star: Never Stop Never Stopping’. But of course he is best known for stealing scenes on SNL, including as New York club aficionado Stefon (above).
Hader joins Bryan Cranston, who will also provide a mo-cap/voice performance as the Rangers’ mentor Zordon. Also in the cast are Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G. as Trini the Yellow Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger and Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger.
The announcement of Hader’s casting came via the ‘Power Rangers’ Twitter account:

The movie is a reboot of the first two seasons of ‘Power Rangers’ which kicked off a 20+ year franchise. Reportedly, the movie will feature an updated version of the classic ‘Go Go Power Rangers’ theme song. Hopefully, it will be better than Fall Out Boy’s ‘Ghostbusters’ cover.
The new film, from Lionsgate, will teleport into theaters on March 24, 2017.
