One of the interesting things about the promotion of next summer’s ‘Transformers: The Last Knight‘ is that it’s had as much to do with the production as with the film itself. With a property like ‘Transformers’, you might ordinarily expect the early hype to focus on things like which characters will appear or what shape the plot might take. And to be sure, there is some of that in the mix. But there has also been a focus on how the movie is being filmed, with director Michael Bay even taking to Instagram to show off the custom digital camera he is using.

The latest piece of that promotion is what can only be described as a hybrid of a teaser and a featurette that focuses on the film’s use of IMAX. The featurette also showcases the now decade long shared history of IMAX and ‘Transformers’, describing the ways in which the demands of Bay’s filmmaking style and of the ‘Transformers’ films, in particular, have served to influence the development of IMAX cameras. It’s a partnership that makes sense in many ways, given that IMAX as a format has always relied on immersion and spectacle in some form or another (be it shark documentaries or explosion-laden action films) and that Michael Bay’s distinct style of moviemaking is nothing if not spectacular. In addition to this, the featurette also features footage from every ‘Transformers’ film to date, which, yes, includes ‘The Last Knight’. You can see it for yourself below:

‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ is the fifth entry in the long-running film series from Michael Bay. The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Liam Garrigan, Laura Haddock, Stanley Tucci, Gil Birmingham, Isabel Moner, and Anthony Hopkins. It is slated for release on June 23, 2017.
