It’s no secret that the end of the ‘Harry Potter’ films left Warner Brothers without one of its biggest money makers.  ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is the heir apparent, set in the same Wizarding World, but nearly 100 years earlier and obviously with different characters.  The film is directed by David Yates, who also helmed the last four ‘Potter’ movies and marks the first movie script written by J.K. Rowling, author of the books.

It would be a natural assumption that WB would at least plan a sequel for such a high-profile film, but it looks as though they actually have four additional movies planned, reportedly with a second movie already scripted by Rowling.  Though the studio hasn’t made an official announcement, it’s believed that the second movie would arrive around the holidays in 2018.

They do have an untitled movie locked in for release on November 20th, 2020, which would make sense as most major franchises have movies spaced roughly two years apart, so that could easily turn out to be a third ‘Fantastic Beasts’ and that would most likely mean that the fourth would arrive in 2022 and the fifth would be released in 2024.

Now of course… we haven’t even seen the first movie or how well it will do at the box office.  That could be why WB is being a little coy and haven’t made any official declarations.  After all, this is the same studio behind the DC Comics movie, which they dumped hundreds of millions into, announced a full slate of two or three movies a year well into 2020 only for their first efforts ‘Batman V Superman’ and ‘Suicide Squad’ to “disappoint” with viewers and underperform at the the box office, which resulted in MASSIVE shuffling and restructuring within the company and its executives, with many essentially being demoted.

‘Fantastic Beasts’ may be tied to the ‘Potter’ films, but it’s a new property and doesn’t seem to have whipped the Potter fans into a frenzy.  But then again, this is something entirely new, so maybe once the film arrives, we’ll get a better idea of how this one resonates and if four more movies are warranted.

Are you excited about ‘Fantastic Beasts’?  Are you looking forward to many more of these movies to come?

‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ starring Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, David Chester, Samantha Morton, Carmen Ejogo, Jon Voight, Ron Perlman, and Colin Farrell breaks out of it’s cage on November 18, 2016.
