We’ve known that Marvel and Hulu worked out a deal to make ‘The Runaways‘ and have just learned that Tamara Becher will be handling writing duties on the series! While not the lead writer on ‘Iron Fist‘ she did contribute to the show so Marvel has had some experience working with her and clearly liked what she did. This will be the fourth network that Marvel’s live-action TV properties have expanded into with Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ and before being cancelled far too early ‘Agent Carter‘ on ABC, ‘Daredevil‘, ‘Jessica Jones‘,’Luke Cage‘, ‘Iron Fist’, ‘The Punisher‘, and ‘The Defenders’ on Netflix, and finally ‘Cloak & Dagger‘ being developed for Freeform. With such a full plate and some of these series being in the same world as each other and potentially still Marvel’s Cinematic Universe it is truly amazing that they are still working on developing more for separate networks.
With the show being on Hulu it is doubtful that ‘The Runaways’ will crossover into the mainstream continuity that Marvel has put together but I wouldn’t count that out from being an option quite yet.

This is a series with a huge fanbase which has high hopes for some quality storytelling. The general premise is isolated enough to allow for this story to exist in its own pocket world and not the greater Marvel universe though it would benefit by being in it. The story gives us a group of teenagers who have been friends for years and learn that their parents who brought them together are actually supervillains who secretly control the West Coast of the United States. When they find a way to stop them they suddenly find themselves on the run from both hero and villain alike.
The project has been in the works as a feature length film at one point prior to this which is the one huge sticking point that could give us hope that there will be connections to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe though I suspect that after it was shelved that this hope is more of a pipe dream at this point.
