The new season of Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ started off with introducing us to quite the amazing take on Ghost Rider and the studio has released a video with how they brought the character to life. Honestly, the first episode has probably been my favorite season opener of the series to date and things are heating up quick with the introduction of Robbie Reyes‘ take on the Spirit of Vengeance. The look has been spot on and the ability for him to transform so fluidly was a true treat to see.

While the 2007 ‘Ghost Rider’ film starring Nicolas Cage was horrid, the special effects were actually okay and what they’re using in the show honestly looks to be on par if not surpassing them. Talk about improvements in CGI when you have to remember that the television series is working with a budget well under what a major motion picture would have had.

But how did they do it? Visual effect supervisor Mark Kolpack explains how they are able to create the look on screen and still use Gabriel Luna’s body and facial expressions to complete the character.

You can check out the video that explains it below!

Clearly, this is something that will eventually make its way on the home release of the fourth season as an extra. This is by no means the first time that this kind of technology has been used but anyone who had a chance to watch the scene in HD will clearly be impressed with how successful it was able to be pulled off, on a television show no less.

For anyone who missed the premiere or would like a refresher, you can check out the clip of Ghost Rider fighting Quake below!
