There have long been rumors that ‘Jurassic World‘ was going to kick off a new trilogy and director J.A. Bayona (‘The Impossible’,’The Orphanage’) has now confirmed that it is true! Not only that, he gave a production update on the sequel to Colin Trevorrow‘s (‘Safety Not Guaranteed’,’Home Base’) blockbuster of a first installment. With Trevorrow having just finished up ‘The Book of Henry’ and knee deep into pre-production for the untitled ‘Star Wars: Episode IV‘ it is clearly no surprise as to why he was a bit too busy to return to the franchise which made his name and that is where Bayona has taken over.

First up we have the fun way which Bayona referenced that it would be a trilogy as well as to which visionary directory influenced the direction he is taking with the film:

“It’s interesting. The whole Jurassic World is a trilogy that Colin Trevorrow has envisioned. We’re writing the second chapter, and it’s very interesting where he’s leading the story. I grew up watching Steven Spielberg movies and I love those movies and the legacy, so it’s a question of being truthful to the legacy and at the same time, bringing new stuff that people will appreciate. We are still six months ahead of shooting, and so far, so good. It’s very exciting right now.”

With Spielberg’s style continuing to influence the direction of these films, I’m excited to see how they end up. With ‘Jurassic World’ having been such a tentpole film it will clearly be a challenge to live up to the hype that ‘Jurassic World’ went through.

Sadly, he still hasn’t confirmed what direction the sequel will be going in as of yet. The park was successful for years so even with the lawsuits there could be enough funds in the coffers to attempt and re-open. Or, we might see the military trying to train Raptors once again be roped into things with Chris Pratt (‘Guardians of the Galaxy’,’Her’) working on finding a way to stop it.

Are you looking forward to ‘Jurassic World 2’? What direction could they possibly take this plot in from where things were left off? Share your thoughts below!
