jurassic-world

Jurassic World’ has made quite the impact since premiering around the globe. Though it may have its problems, audiences are certainly connecting to it in a big way. The fourth film based on Michael Crichton’s acclaimed novels has even surpassed ‘The Avengers’ at the box office when it clocked in over $1.5 billion world wide to become the fourth highest grossing film of all time. Naturally, that’s a huge green light for Universal Studios to make another one and now we know when we’re going to see it.

Last month, we learned that Chris Pratt is locked in for more adventures with dinosaurs (in between his stints as Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, no doubt). Of course, that doesn’t always mean that we’ll actually see a sequel due to a number of factors, but in this case it worked out for ‘Jurassic Park’ fans. According to Deadline, Universal announced that the sequel to ‘Jurassic World’ would be released on June 22, 2018. In addition to Pratt returning to star, Bryce Dallas Howard will also return to reprise her role. Colin Trevorrow will also return behind the camera, however, he’ll only be writing the movie rather than writing and directing possibly due to his rumored commitments to ‘Star Wars’. No other details such as a title are available at this time.

Honestly, while this is all really great news, I wish that Trevorrow were directing instead of writing the upcoming film. As a director, he hit some really great notes visually throughout the film. The nostalgic shots of the park gates and the landscapes paired with an excellent soundtrack really did it for me. But the script is where a lot of the problems came from. Everything involving the two kids was pretty sloppy as far as their characters went. Even Howard’s heroine fell into some tired tropes. Although, if Trevorrow has learned from his mistakes, then who knows what could be accomplished.
