As to the main question of whether the time-altering decision of Barry Allen to save his mother in ‘The Flash’ Season 2 finale will affect the world of ‘Arrow,’ the answer is, yes, but apparently only a few characters will be majorly affected. According to Executive Producer Wendy Mericle, there will be “Some impact, but you’ll have to tune in to actually see what it is.” I know I know, its a very cagey, corporate answer, but we did recently learn some news about Felicity Smoak that makes us wonder if she is one of the characters affected by the change (also recently confirmed was the fact that John Diggle’s character would be affected). Apparently, Felicity will get a new boyfriend in Season 5 of ‘Arrow,’ and it is someone we will meet very early in the season.
Since “early in the season’ is most likely when we will be in the thick of figuring out what changes have occurred to the characters thanks to Barry Allen messing with the timeline, I would not be surprised if Felicity’s new boyfriend is a character who did not previously “exist” in her life, but through the time manipulations became an old friend of hers that shows up in Star City early in the season. Of course, this is just speculation, but knowing how things work at ‘Arrow,’ that seems a very like scenario. And while Stephen Amell has commented that Oliver will be fine with Olivia dating someone new, I think we all know that Oliver Queen will be anything but, not to mention how annoyed the Olicity shippers are going to be.
What are your thoughts on ‘Arrow’ being affected by the Flashpoint storyline on ‘The Flash?’ Will it be too complicated? Will ‘Arrow’ then have to reset itself if Barry Allen corrects the past, and how will casual viewers be able to figure this all out? Share your opinions on the matter in the comments below!
