Fox has officially just picked up ‘Sleepy Hollow‘ for a fourth season. For anyone who was absolutely annoyed with how Season 3 ended (or 2 for that matter) and were just ready to let things go, then you’ll be as unhappy as I am with this announcement. The third season actually started kind of strong with the two Witnesses back on track and even with the ratings dipping it seemed to be going well with Mills and Crane back to getting so much screen time.

If you aren’t caught up, you should probably turn back as to why so many are annoyed with the Season 3 finale.

Still with me? I’m not sure how anyone can be happy with how Nicole Beharie’s Abbie Mil bit the big one. Yes, this is a show where death is a loose term and there is a chance she could be brought back. However, with the writers taking Abbie out of play and the actress wanting off the show with the direction they’ve been going – this looks to be a permanent change. When you factor in that her spirit can be reincarnated into someone else, it just goes to show you that we’re finally losing the dynamic that made us all tune in for the first season and all hoped that they would go back to.

So why is the show still around with numbers being down? When you think about it, this is the network which cancelled ‘Brimstone’, ‘Family Guy’, ‘Millennium’, ‘The Tick‘, ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’, ‘Futurama’, and of course ‘Firefly’. With how viewers and critics have been giving up on this series, my only guess is that some network exec either really loves this show or they are terrified that shutting it down would bring back the same negative reaction that always comes with their prematurely ending a show.

Fox, really, it’s okay to let this one go. Give it a good ending but your core viewership has been bleeding out since the first season and poor writing decisions including a Season 3 finale that did nothing but anger fans really means we’re good with you taking this hour-long spot and giving it to another show. Probably a work of science fiction that we’ll all love that you’ll cancel after 1-2 seasons.
