The official initiative by Fox to live-stream some of their top shows started this last Monday so if you’re interested in checking out ‘Wayward Pines‘, ‘Scream Queens‘, or a number of other shows through a live streaming service this should be some great news for you! The new launch officially kicked off with ‘So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation’ this past Sunday and will also include a slew of non-genre shows such as ‘Master Chef’, ‘Hotel Hell’, ‘Home Free’, and ‘Teen Choice 2016’ during the upcoming season with ‘Scream Queens’ and ‘Lethal Weapon’ being added when they premiere.
It won’t be long until we see ‘Sleepy Hollow‘, ‘Lucifer‘, ‘Gotham‘, and ‘Empire’ on this list as they did say that they would add in all of their series from the upcoming season. However, we know that live sports aren’t being included. This beta service was given a large roll out as it is being tested in all 210 markets that Fox has across the nation.
According to Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen, and CEOs of Fox Television Group:
“From the start of the on-demand and over-the-top viewing revolution, FOX has been at the forefront of providing greater access to our buzz-defining shows, like Empire, Lucifer, Scream Queens and Family Guy. Adding nationwide primetime live streams is just another great example of how the Fox Digital Consumer Group, under Brian Sullivan’s leadership, is innovating to give viewers the convenience and flexibility to watch our programming whenever and wherever they want.”
With streaming services increasingly gathering attention as cutting the cord to traditional cable or complimenting it with streaming to mobile devices has been on the rise, this seems like a good option for any major network to be pursuing at this point. While the numbers can’t be included in Nielsen ratings, they will still be used internally to be able to track how many eyes are actually viewing their shows.
