Justice-League (2)

At long last, the Justice League is headed back to televised animation in the new Cartoon Network series ‘Justice League Action’ which follows the format of the comical ‘Teen Titans GO!’ which airs as 11-minute shorts, versus full 30-minute episodes.  The Trinity of DC Comics, Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, have taken center stage on the previously released promotional image, with several other characters relegated to background sketches.

But at the recent Kre8tif! conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, two color slides revealed a fuller roster of both heroes and villains.  Some are expected, but there are a few surprises.  You can check out the images below:

Many of these heroes and villains have appeared in other animated projects, but some are new.  In case you need a guide, the characters shown are:

  • Blue Beetle
  • Space Cabbie (!)
  • Doctor Fate
  • Shazam!
  • Doctor Light (Kimiyo Hoshi)
  • Mister Terrific
  • The Joker
  • Swamp Thing
  • Firestorm
  • Batman
  • Superman
  • Wonder Woman
  • Martian Manhunter
  • Big Barda
  • Ra’s Al-Ghul
  • Harley Quinn
  • Hawkman
  • Lobo
  • Satan Girl
  • Character is obscured… Lex Luthor?

In the previously released poster, it appeared that these characters will also be part of the show:

  • Green Arrow
  • Zatanna
  • Plastic Man
  • John Constantine
  • Vermin Vundabar
  • The Flash
  • Vixen
  • Darkseid
  • Felix Faust
  • Killer Frost
  • Despero

There are two characters that I can’t make out.  One might be Lois Lane (above Batman’s head, with her head covered by the logo).  The other might be Doctor Polaris or maybe Mirror Master (to the right of Wonder Woman’s sword arm).

‘Justice League Action’ features Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill as the voices of Batman and Joker, following their reunion on the upcoming R-rated ‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ animated movie.  James Woods provides the voice of Lex Luthor.  Diedrich Bader will voice Booster Gold.  Bader has previously voiced Batman himself on ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold’, as well as Ace the Bat Hound, Guy Gardener and other DC characters in various shorts, series and movies.  We also know Carl Reiner will be playing The Wizard and Joanne Spracklen will play Supergirl.

‘Justice League Action’ will debut this fall on the Cartoon Network:

Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman lead the DC Comics Super Heroes against their most infamous foes in adventures packed with relentless thrills, fun and action. No need to wait for the good stuff to start, each eleven-minute episode jumps in with lightning-paced action and heroics. Whether defending the Earth, facing invaders from space, or battling the bizarre forces of magic, the always-rotating team of Justice League heroes, are up to any challenge.

Are your favorite DC characters included?  Who else would you like to see on this show?
