preacher

With the ongoing critical and commercial success of ‘The Walking Dead’ as a television show on AMC, the cable channel is banking on their ability to take an “edgy” comic book property and turn it into to TV gold once more.  In just a few short days, AMC will premiere ‘Preacher,’ based on the DC/Vertigo comic of the same name.  Today brings us a new teaser trailer for the premiere episode, the first four minutes of the series, as well as some news as to what will immediately follow the first few episodes’ showings.

‘Talking Preacher’ will show on AMC directly following the season premiere episode of ‘Preacher’ on May 22nd.  The show is expected to follow the same format as ‘Talking Dead,’ the Chris Hardwick-hosted review/recap talk show that follows episodes of ‘The Walking Dead,’ which has been a fairly successful move on AMC’s part in terms of retaining audience post-main-show airing.  For now, AMC is only committing to episodes of ‘Talking Preacher’ following the premiere episode and the season finale episode scheduled to hit airwaves on July 31st.

For those unfamiliar with the story and concept of ‘Preacher,’ here’s the description of the show from AMC’s press kit:

Based on the popular cult comic book franchise of the same name, Preacher is a supernatural, twisted and darkly comedic drama that follows a West Texas preacher named Jesse Custer, who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that causes him to develop a highly unusual power. Jesse, his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip and an Irish vagabond named Cassidy come together, and when they do, they are thrust into a crazy world populated by a cast of characters from Heaven, Hell, and everywhere in between.

And if that isn’t enough, check out the first four minutes of the series before its premiere on Sunday below:

‘Preacher’ stars Dominic Cooper in the lead role, along with Ruth Negga, Joseph Gilgun, Lucy Griffiths, W. Earl Brown, and Anatol Yusef.  The 90-minute premiere episode is scheduled to air on AMC on May 22nd at 10:00pm ET.
