xxLady Gaga isn’t the only singer to get into film as of late since St Vincent, whose real name is Annie Clark, is set to direct one of the shorts in the horror themed all female anthology titled ‘XX’. Cinematic horror anthologies have become increasingly popular over the past few years with releases such as ‘V/H/S‘ being released and this one has some major studio backing as Magnet Releasing is set to distribute on behalf of Magnolia Pictures. The idea behind this one is to truly showcase the strength of women in horror who will be running the gambit from directing to writing to acting in the films.

Clark’s short will be co-written and produced by Roxanne Benjamin (‘V/H/S’,’Southbound’) though no details of the plot have been released at this time.

In the director’s chair, St. Vincent will be joining Karyn Kusama (‘Jennifer’s Body’,’The Invitation’), Jennifer Lynch (‘Surveillance’,’Chained’) and horror icon Jovanka Vuckovic (‘The Captured Bird’,’The Guest’). The anthology has a strong body of talent behind it though the lineup has changed quite a few time since it’s inception. Previous directors who have been attached were Jean & Sylvia Soska (‘American Mary’,’Dead Hooker in a Trunk’), Sofia Carrillo (‘La Casa Triste’,’Adaptación’) and most recently Mary Harron (‘American Psycho’,’The Moth Diaries’). Hopefully we’ve heard the last of this directing shake up and see the project start to fully move forward.

According to Clark:

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to explore the genre-film medium.”

Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles adds that:

“I’ve long been a fan of Annie’s work. We’re excited to watch the singular vision she’ll bring to this project.”

Sounds like we’ll be treated to a ton of talent here and I suspect that we’ll be in for a collection that puts the ‘V/H/S’ anthology to shame.

Are you looking forward to ‘XX’? Which director do you think will deliver the best segment to the anthology? Share your thoughts below!
