Green Room

It’s not completely out of the ordinary to see Patrick Stewart associated with roles that see him acting as the leader of a group of misfits. As Captain Jean-Luc Picard in ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’, he led the crew of the Enterprise through 167 episodes of television and four feature films. Later, Stewart led the live-action version of Marvel Comics’ iconic mutant superhero team as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movies. But now, the legendary actor seems to be leaving the heroics in the past since his latest film ‘Green Room’ finds him playing a white supremacist neo nazi in an intense horror thriller. And if it’s too good to be true, you can check out the latest trailer for the film from ‘Murder Party’ and ‘Blue Ruin’ director Jeremy Saulnier that wowed critics and audiences alike at the Cannes Film Festival and the Toronto Film Festival last year.

Set for a wide release at the end of the month, ‘Green Room’ is the latest must-see acquisition from up and coming production company A24, who also released ‘The Witch’, ‘Ex Machina’, and ‘Room’. It follows a punk band featuring Anton Yelchin and Alia Shawkat that are finish up a failed attempt at a tour. But as they wrap up their last show and get ready to head back home, they catch Stewart and his gang doing something they definitely shouldn’t be doing. From there, the audience is in for some epically brutal violence during this insanely tense standoff. Though you only get hints of it here, check out the latest trailer below, followed by the official synopsis of the film:

Down on their luck punk rockers The Ain’t Rights are finishing up a long and unsuccessful tour, and are about to call it quits when they get an unexpected booking at an isolated, run-down club deep in the backwoods of Oregon. What seems merely to be a third-rate gig escalates into something much more sinister when they witness an act of violence backstage that they weren’t meant to see. Now trapped backstage, they must face off against the club’s depraved owner, Darcy Banker, a man who will do anything to protect the secrets of his nefarious enterprise. But while Darcy and his henchmen think the band will be easy to get rid of, The Ain’t Rights prove themselves much more cunning and capable than anyone expected, turning the tables on their unsuspecting captors and setting the stage for the ultimate life-or-death showdown.

Despite being a “professional writer”, Ben likes run-on sentences and puns far too much. Also, he loves Patrick Stewart as Alistair Burke on ‘Fraiser’. For more of his attempts at being funny and the occasional insightful thought, follow him on Twitter and Instagram.
