Black-Widow-Scarlett-Johansson

Scarlett Johansson debuted as Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff in 2010’s ‘Iron Man 2’ and has since gone on to reprise her roles in both ‘Avengers’ movies, ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘ and the upcoming ‘Captain America: Civil War’ in which her character finds herself torn between her loyalties to Iron Man and Captain America.  Throughout the movies, Black Widow has proven to be a valuable ally, even though she doesn’t possess any superpowers.  She is also, at least for now, the most high-profile female hero in the Marvel movies.  But so far, she has been relegated to a guest-starring role.

Could she finally get her own solo movie?  It certainly sounds that way!  Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige stated that he would like to showcase Black Widow in her own movie, but that it would be a number of years before that became a reality:

“Yes, for sure, I think [Black] Widow at some point would be great. But when you start talking about things that are now four/five years away…sometimes we do that. Doctor Strange has been talked about for ten years. But we’re focused on the next nine movies, which is a lot, between now and 2019.”

Indeed, Marvel Studios has ‘Civil War’ and ‘Doctor Strange‘ arriving this year, with ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘, ‘Spider-Man‘ (co-produced with Sony) and ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘ next year, ‘Black Panther‘, ‘Avengers: Infinity War – Part One’ and ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp‘ in 2018, ‘Captain Marvel’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2’ in 2019.  They also still plan to release ‘Inhumans‘ but the date is now unclear AND the studio has three unannounced movies planned for 2020.

Of course ‘Black Widow’ could wind up being one of those mystery projects.  ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ definitely helped set up future revelations about Black Widow’s dark past, so the character has a lot of untapped potential.  And she is already very recognizable to audiences, so she has that going for her.

Would you like to see a solo ‘Black Widow’ movie?  Or are you content with her as part of the ‘Avengers’?
