Captain America Civil War Spiderman still 2

Since his humble beginnings in the pages of Marvel Comics back in 1962, Spider-Man has grown to become a cultural phenomenon. He has arguably become the most recognizable resident of the House of Ideas, but he didn’t get there on his own because Spidey made some amazing friends along the way. Their adventures have been chronicled in comic books, cartoons, and movies over and over again. However, thanks to the unprecedented agreement between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, we’ll finally get to see a live-action version of the friendly neighborhood web-slinger alongside the Avengers in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ next month. From there, Tom Holland’s wall-crawler will go on to star in a solo film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So does that mean that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will pop up in his movie too? Now we know for sure.

When the MCU came into existence (but more specifically when ‘Spider-Man 3’ failed and Sony tried to reboot the franchise so soon afterwards), True Believers began clamoring for Spidey to join the Avengers in a movie theater near you. They demanded that the rights revert to Marvel so that the character could be done some justice. Though that isn’t exactly what’s going on, we’re finally going to see it happen. And it won’t only be in ‘Civil War’ either as it will happen in next year’s currently untitled solo Spider-Man film. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed it by sharing that some familiar faces from the MCU will appear alongside Peter Parker in his next big screen adventure from director Jon Watts and the writing tandem of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. Though he wouldn’t give specifics, Feige said that “[Spider-Man] is in the universe now, and the fun of the universe is that characters go back and forth.”

In the same interview, Joe Russo suggested that the Great Lakes Avengers would be the ones to crossover into young Parker’s life. As much as I would love to see Mister Immortal, Flatman, Big Bertha, and Squirrel Girl make their MCU debuts in a Spider-Man movie, chances are that we’ll have a better idea of who will still be standing and able to make a cameo after the dust settles on the Star-Spangled Avenger’s third solo film premieres next month. Until then, feel free to speculate about who will be teaming up with the latest live-action incarnation of the spectacular Spider-Man in the comments below.
