SPOILER ALERT: This article contains SPOILERS for ‘Daredevil’ Season Two, now available in its entirety on Netflix. But if you haven’t binged the entire thing, you may want to turn back now.
Élodie Yung‘s performance as Elektra on ‘Daredevil’ Season Two has been widely embraced by fans. But the bittersweet season finale, which was incredibly faithful to the original Frank Miller comic books, seems to have shut the door on her return. Then again, if there’s one thing fans know about the character, it’s that death is never really permanent when it comes to this assassin. (Much to Miller’s chagrin.)
Not only has Elektra been resurrected in the comics, but the version played by Jennifer Garner in the 2003 ‘Daredevil’ film, was revived for a solo film, although… she probably shouldn’t have been.
Even so, the precedent has been set. There has been chatter that Jon Bernthal’s Punisher would be spun off into his own Netflix series since before Season Two was even released. But can fans also look forward to Yung in a solo ‘Elektra’ series?
Not if Yung has anything to say about it.
“I love Elektra. I really have a special place in my heart for her. It was very enjoyable for me to discover her and to adapt her for this project and bring myself to this character. So I have a special spot for her. Having my own show — it’s not something that I think of, it’s not. I think I would choose to do things because they are interesting, because I like a character or because it’s very well written. Or because it makes sense. So that’s my answer.
I would love to appear in ‘The Defenders. I don’t know — because hopefully she’ll maybe be on the bad side. I don’t know — I don’t know what they’d do with Elektra in ‘The Defenders’ but that would be a good dynamic I think — to be confronted by these four superheroes and I think it would be interesting. I’d be curious to see what they do.”
Netflix has always planned to unite its four Marvel headliners as ‘The Defenders’ in a limited-run series. But that’s all we know. No word what force (or forces) could unite these four heroes. Could Elektra factor into this team-up somehow?
It’s still over a year away. Netflix still has ‘Luke Cage’ in the pipeline for 2016 and ‘Iron Fist’ next year, in addition to one other show… it remains to be seen if that’s going to be ‘Daredevil’ Season Three, ‘Jessica Jones’ Season Two or another program entirely.
Would you like to see Yung return as Elektra? Or would you rather move on to new ideas?
