Game of Thrones

On ‘Game of Thrones’ the cold-hearted villain Cersei‘s storyline took a rocky turn last season which in an almost miraculous way, made her more likeable as fans’ hearts bled as she took her infamous “walk of shame.”  But her incestuous relationship with her own brother, Jaime has always been one of the signature elements of the show that prove that this series “goes there.”  Well, it’s about to go even further according to series star Lena Headey who plays Cersei.

With Season Six approaching, Headey recently spoke about her character’s arc in upcoming episodes:

“It’s probably her most interesting season.  She really has nothing to lose and she has everything to gain from a horrible position she finds herself in.  Her relationship with Jaime is at an all-time weird level.  It’s juicy, and it’s so f–king dark.”

First the pair saw their son Joffrey poisoned in a stand-up-and-cheer moment.  Then last season, Jaime failed to save their daughter Myrcella.  But with the Faith Militant attempting to seize power in King’s landing the pair must work together to secure their position of power.

Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss recently opened up about what to expect from Season Six, and in short that’s greatness.

Said Benioff:

“The whole season, Dan and I talk about this a lot. This is not us trying to hype it. Usually there’s an episode or two we’re kind of nervous about, that didn’t turn out as well as we hoped. This season there is not a weak episode. We had great directors who knew what they were doing, paired with excellent [directors of photography]. We thought at the script stage it might be our strongest season. Then the episodes came in better than we hoped. We’re always reluctant to say it’s ‘the best season yet’ because so much of that is in the eyes of the beholder. And Dan and I are so close to it that it’s impossible to be unbiased. But that’s my sense – watching them all together now, this is the best one we’ve done. It’s also the one I’m proudest of, because it was the hardest.”

The best season yet, huh?

What do you think?  What would you like to see happen this season?
