Taron-Egerton

Just days ago, he heard that the list of potential candidates to play a young Han Solo in the Phil Lord/Christopher Miller-directed anthology film had been whittled down to just a few names, including Jack Reynor, who first gained recognition for his supporting role as Shane in ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’.  But one name that seemed to jump out was that of Taron Egerton, the rising young British actor who gained notice in ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’.  Since then, Egerton has headlined the Olympic biopic ‘Eddie the Eagle’ and appeared in ‘Legend’ opposite Tom Hardy.  He is lined up for a ‘Kingsman’ sequel and to play Robin Hood in ‘Robin Hood: Origins’.  One movie he’s not lined up for?  A young Han Solo movie.

Sorry!

While appearing on ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’ in England to promote ‘Eddie the Eagle’, Egerton made the heartbreaking announcement:

“I’ve heard this rumor, yes. I mean, I’ve seen the stuff on the Internet, and I think any lad of my age would kill to play a part like that. It’s very, very flattering. I have no idea if there’s any truth in it, but I mean, Lucasfilm, Disney, if there is, then you know where I am.”

Just to clarify as to whether Lucasfilm had contacted him, Egerton replied:

“No, they’ve not.”

Actors that have reportedly met with Disney include Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller and Emory Cohen.  In addition to Egerton and Reynor, Alden Ehrenreich was also supposedly in the mix, but considering that it turns out that Egerton has debunked his part in this, take that with a grain of salt.

Taking on such an iconic role that has, for over 30 years, been associated with one great actor would be daunting for anyone.  Does Egerton have what it takes to slip on the iconic black vest?

Or is there another actor you think would be a better fit?

At any rate, the Han Solo prequel movie will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and is already slated to hit theaters on May 25th, 2018.
