‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ kicks off Warner Brothers’ DC Expanded Universe in a big way. Obviously, in addition to the two titular heroes, the movie also features Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), as has been revealed in trailers. And Aquaman (Jason Momoa) has his own toys based on the movie, so obviously he, at least, makes an appearance. There have been rumors of other characters popping up, but now we have official confirmation.
One film reviewer who has already seen the flick has said:
There is one name missing. There has been buzz that Dan Amboyer, who has a small role in ‘Batman V Superman’, was actually playing Hal Jordan, a.k.a. Green Lantern. But now it seems that Green Lantern not only doesn’t appear in this film, but may not even be in 2017’s ‘Justice League – Part One’.
Producer Greg Silverman stated:
“[Green Lantern] is an incredible character. He’s actually multiple incredible characters. There’s real opportunity there. We didn’t do a great job on that first Green Lantern movie. This is a character who deserves to be treated in the same way that Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman are being treated now, which is with great reverence. I guess I can say to the Green Lantern fans: if they can be patient with us, I think they’ll be really happy.
“Every beat of [Justice League] is not yet worked out. So there’s the possibility that he may or may not be in Justice League 2. For now, we felt that we were introducing enough characters that the best possible place we could put Green Lantern is some introduction in Justice League 2, or barring that, a movie after.”
So it sounds like WB isn’t rushing to present Green Lantern to movie audiences yet, so soon after the 2007 flop which they had hoped to use as a springboard to craft a cinematic DC universe.
A new ‘Green Lantern Corps’ movie is already slated for release in 2020. Will this be the first new cinematic GL? We will keep you posted!
Are you sad that a Green Lantern won’t appear in ‘Batman V Superman’ or possibly even ‘Justice League’?
