shazam

I hope you weren’t expecting to see more of the ‘Justice League’ after their first feature film is released as next up in the DC Extended Universe will be ‘Shazam!‘ Not only is the movie slated to begin filming in either January or February of 2018 but there is already a director attached as well! David F. Sandberg (‘Lights Out’,’Annabelle: Creation’) will be bringing this iconic DC hero to life through New Line and he’ll likely be joined by producer Peter Safran who is already working on DC’s ‘Aquaman’ and previously worked with Sandberg on the upcoming ‘Annabelle’ release.

We had recently heard a new rumor that Dayne John’s ‘Black Adam‘ won’t be making his debut appearance in the film and would actually be a spin-off which will be developed at the same time. I wouldn’t be too surprised if we did end up seeing the character at the very least teased in some form if not directly appearing on screen.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Billy Batson is probably one of the perfect comic book characters for kids out there. Batson is just a child but is gifted with the ability to turn into a fully powered superhero when he says the word ‘Shazam!’ His skills come from mythological figures as he has “the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury.”

Just as we don’t know if Johnson will be joining the cast at this time, we’re unsure as to who will be playing both Batson and the fully powered up Shazam. If we don’t see Black Adam being the villain in the movie, chances are Doctor Sivana who is Shazam’s other more traditional supervillain will be popping up on the big screen.

While a release date isn’t set at this time, we’ll likely see the film sometime in 2019 if the shooting does begin on time.

Are you looking forward to ‘Shazam!’? Who would you like to see him go up against when the film is released? Share your thoughts below!
