“We’ve had twenty years to prepare for this… so have they!”
With that tagline, the general premise of the long awaited sequel to 1996’s ‘Independence Day’ hits us like a ton of bricks and instills us with a certain dread of what may be to come. The first teaser trailer hit a few weeks back, and so far the film looks nothing short of amazing! When an upcoming film looks this good, it’s hard not to get excited about it, and even harder not to get excited about the toys that come along with it!
The team at Cepia were kind enough to take us behind the scenes to show us a sneak peek at some of the amazing new collectibles coming our way later this year from their ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ toyline! We got a chance to check out some of the upcoming vehicles from the film, as well as a new Hybrid Rifle blaster!
As far as the vehicles go, fans of the original Trendmasters ‘Independence Day’ line are in for a treat, as these are very reminiscent of that classic 90’s line. We get both an Alien Fighter as well as what’s called a ‘Hybrid Fighter Jet’!
The Alien Fighter looks fairly similar to the one from the first film, although it’s definitely got its differences! This version is a little less rounded and a bit more jagged around the edges! The Alien Fighter includes a tiny removable Alien Pilot as well! This ship features lights and sounds straight out of the film, so it’s definitely going to be a crowdpleaser!
The Hybrid Fighter Jet looks like it’s the payoff of twenty years worth of experimentation that intermixes the Alien technology seen in the first film with our own earth tech! From a distance, it looks like a pretty basic fighter jet, but upon closer inspection you can definitely see where the Alien influence is felt in the design. This Fighter also features lights and sounds right from the film, and includes it’s very own pilot as well!
While we did get a first look at what our old friends The Aliens are going to look like this time around (and trust is, it’s definitely a bit different), we unfortunately weren’t able to take any pictures of them. Lets just say they look pretty intense, and that you won’t be disappointed when you finally see them in the film!
One more item that we were able to get our hands on during Toy Fair was the new Hybrid Rifle! The Hybrid Rifle looks like your standard futuristic blast rifle. It features lights and sound effects from the film, as well as a fun design that really makes it stand out. It looks like the earthlings have been meddling with some of the Alien weaponry left behind twenty years ago as well, and we’re ready to throw it right back in their faces!
‘Independence Day Resurgence’ is set to hit theaters on June 24, 2016 and stars Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Liam Hemsworth, and Jessie Usher! Expect the toyline to hit a few weeks before the film does, so keep your eyes peeled later this spring!
