Fans can’t get enough ‘Star Wars’!  ‘The Force Awakens’ is currently gunning for the spot as the top grossing movie in history but the audience for this mythology is ready for even more, as ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ was recently voted the most anticipated movie of 2016.  The new movie is the first ‘Star Wars’ anthology film, a movie set within the same universe as the classic movies, but technically unrelated to the main storyline.

Not much is known about the plot of ‘Rogue One’ other than it follows the exploits of a band of Rebels who are entrusted with stealing the plans for the Death Star which plays a pivotal part in the climax of ‘A New Hope.’  The new movie has been described as a heist movie set within the ‘Star Wars’ shared universe.  Director Gareth Edwards summed things up by saying:

“It’s the reality of war. Good guys are bad. Bad guys are good. It’s complicated, layered; a very rich scenario in which to set a movie.”

The new movie stars Felicity Jones and Mads Mikkelsen, as well as Alan Tudyk, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Diego Luna and Forest Whitaker.  As of right now, Mikkelson’s character appears to be named Galen, and it appears that Jones plays his (unnamed) daughter.

The latest rumor hints that ‘Rogue One’ echoes Earth history in a way, comparing Galen to Robert Oppenheimer:

“Mads Mikkelsen (Galen) is kind of the key to the film in a way. He is a scientist that took over the Geonosian Death Star project. He solved several of the flaws the Empire could not and is sort of a revered person in the Empire for his contributions. However, Mikkelsen’s character is a Robert Oppenheimer-type character. Oppenheimer helped design the atomic bomb only to say, “Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.” The guilt “Galen” feels for his contributions to the Empire become too much and he defects, attempting to make things right. In order to do this, he enlists the help of his only daughter….”

If you want more than that, the trailer for the movie is said to be slated to debut before screenings of ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

What are your thoughts on ‘Rogue One’?  Are you excited about a ‘Star Wars’ movie that isn’t part of the trilogy of trilogies?
