For about two years now, we’ve been hearing that ‘Kick-Ass 2’ director Jeff Wadlow was developing ‘X-Force’. Based on the classic X-team from the 90s created by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld that spun out of the pages of ‘New Mutants’, the film would join Fox’s stable of Marvel mutant movies alongside the original ‘X-Men’ trilogy, the Wolverine films, and upcoming projects like ’Deadpool’, ‘Gambit’, and ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’. However, when the sequel to the acclaimed ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ was announced, it appeared that Wadlow’s work had been pushed back. Since then, things seemed to be fairly quiet on that front, but now it looks like a possible team roster may have just been revealed.
With the release of ‘Days of Future Past’, a number of X-Force team members have already been introduced in the X-Men cinematic universe such as Deadpool, Warpath, Bishop, Colossus, and Sunspot. Since so many were in play already, many assumed that they would come together with team leader Cable to star in ‘X-Force’ when the time was right. Although, some new concept art courtesy of Gregory Semkow has surfaced indicating that the roster would include plenty more new faces than expected. The artist recently shared the following piece that supposedly features the lineup from the script:
From right to left, it looks like we have Warpath (which could mean the return of actor Booboo Stewart), Domino, Cannonball, Cable, and a hooded woman that could be a redesigned Boom Boom/Boomer/Meltdown. With previous reports saying that the team might feature a lineup reminiscent of its early days, this concept art definitely supports that assessment since the only ones missing here from the first incarnation of the group is Shatterstar and Feral.
While I’m a bit disappointed that X-23 isn’t in the mix, I can still appreciate Jeff Wadlow going back to the beginning for ‘X-Force’ (if this does actually turn out to be the team in the movie). But what do you think about the lineup? Are there any characters that you hoped would appear in the upcoming film? Sound off in the comments.
