From her humble beginnings as a rebellious hacker to her evolution as a full on field agent, Chloe Bennet’s Skye has gone through a number of changes on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..‘ A big one was certainly when we all learned that her real name is Daisy Johnson, but an even more impactful revelation was when her Inhuman powers manifested. And now in the upcoming season, she’ll evolve once again as she leads her own team of Secret Warriors and comes into her own as Quake. But how much will she resemble her comic book counterpart when the first TV show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe returns later this month? Thanks to a new interview, we have a pretty good idea.

Early this week, the LA Times revealed our first look at Bennet’s new costume from the third season of ABC’s flagship program for their corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the article, costume designer Ann Foley described her inspirations and her intentions while she was putting this outfit together:

“It’s about strength. She feels very empowered in it. That’s what was important to me, that she felt empowered to me. I wanted to stay true to some of the designs I saw in the comics. In the style lines, I wanted to pay a little bit of a tribute to her tactical ability from last season, but we also incorporated the Quake symbol into her gauntlets and on the back of her suit.”

The often-silly actress (who lets that side of her shine on her Instagram frequently) weighed in with her thoughts on her character’s new attire. She also brings up a good point about superhero costumes in general:

“It’s only something that Daisy would have and is specific to her earthquake powers. It’s a practical part of [the costume], cause when you put this on in real life, it’s not that practical! I always wondered why superheroes wear such tight outfits, cause they’re really tight and really limiting. It works onscreen, though.”

Aside from swapping out the S.H.I.E.L.D. blue of the comics for a more real world covert black and a longer hairstyle, the MCU version of Agent Johnson is the spitting image of the Marvel Comics character that she’s based on. It also bears some resemblance to the suits worn by Black Widow and Mockingbird, so it fits in very nicely with the aesthetic already established in Marvel’s films and TV shows. Overall, I would say that it’s a pretty good look for Daisy and I can’t wait to see the new suit in action.
