If Dot and Bette from ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ taught us anything, it’s that sometimes good things come in twos… or maybe one good thing and one bad?  Either way, come 2016, Ryan Murphy and his gang may be doubling up on the hit anthology series.  Murphy announced that he has two sets of writers working on the show for next year with plans to unleash a spring installment as well as the usual fall run.  That’s twice the twisted frights!  Can you stand it?

Of course there are no details about the subject matter.  We’ve already had a haunted house, an insane asylum run by a twisted Nazi scientist (with dashes of aliens and demonic possession), witches, sideshow freaks stalked by a psycho killer and now vampire-like fashionistas.  What’s left?  Plenty!

And keep in mind that details about the current season are still trickling out slowly, so don’t expect Murphy or anyone else involved to say much (if anything) about the new installments until they are much closer to airing.

But here’s what Murphy was free to say about releasing two chapters:

“Next year we might do a fall ‘American Horror Story’ and a spring…We’re doing something that we’ve never done before on the show where we’re doing two different groups of writers rooms. Some of our writers will be bouncing around but a whole different group is coming in late August. The next thing we’re crafting up is very, very different than this. Not smaller. But just not opulent. More rogue and more dark.”

More dark?  Than what?!  Though the scare factor has varied from year to year, each has had more than its share of the macabre top keep audiences coming back with each new story.  In fact, the audience has increased with every season.

That said, there have been a few gripes along the way.  ‘Coven’ was probably the least scary of them all, while many (including myself) found ‘Freak Show’ a bit scattered and unfocused, with the scariest part eliminated halfway through.

Also, though he said ‘next year’ he followed that up with saying there would be a fall season, then a spring season, so it sounds as if there will be the usual lag between fall seasons, with the “bonus” spring season coming after that, in 2017.

Murphy is also currently heading up two additional shows, ‘American Crime Story’ and the new fall show ‘Scream Queens.’  Could he be spreading things a bit thin?  We’ll have to wait and see, but I’m sure FX won’t be shooting down the idea, seeing as how ‘AHS’ is one of its most popular show.

What do you think?  Is two too much?  Or do you think there could never been too much ‘American Horror Story’?  Comment below!
