Though we’ll be meeting him first alongside Krysten Ritter in ‘Jessica Jones’ later this year, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage will go on to star in his own Netflix series. While we haven’t gotten too much official word on the upcoming show, a few details have emerged as Cheo Hodari Coker joined as the showrunner and Alfre Woodard entered into final negotiations to play villainous politician Minetta. Now, a rumored synopsis has emerged that possibly gives more details regarding what the former Power Man’s story is about.
Earlier this week, Heroic Hollywood posted a potential plot and character description for ‘Luke Cage.’ While they note that this story breakdown is “subject to change,” it reveals that the award-winning Woodard may not be the only influential antagonist and Ritter’s Jones might not factor in as a love interest. Check out the synopsis below:
“Luke Cage is a former gang member who is framed for a crime. In prison, he volunteers for a medical experiment that goes awry, giving him super strength and bulletproof skin. Using his newfound powers, Cage escapes and becomes a hero for hire. His archenemy is Willis Stryker, a former childhood friend from Harlem. The two committed petty crimes together, and both fell for the same woman, Reva Connors, which led to their eventual falling out. It was Stryker who framed Cage for a drug deal that sent him to prison.”
If this synopsis does turn out to be legitimate, it’s interesting that Stryker (AKA Diamondback) and Connors are factoring into the storyline because this supports previous predictions that Cage’s origin will be prominently featured in the third Marvel/Netflix series. Although, one now has to wonder whether the series will take place in the past or in the present. ‘Daredevil’ included a number of flashbacks while taking place mostly in the present day, so it’s possible that this show could follow suit. Or will they break from the formula and just set the show before ‘Jessica Jones’? Time well tell on this, but if it does end up taking place in the past, I’m really hoping that we see Luke don the purple pants, yellow shirt, and the tiara. Hell, even if it’s not set earlier in the MCU timeline, I hope that vintage outfit makes an appearance somehow.
What do you think about this potential synopsis for ‘Luke Cage’? Where in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline do you think the show will be set? And are you interested in possibly seeing Diamondback and Reva Connors play a part in Cage’s upcoming solo outing? Sound off in the comments.
