Anne Hathaway is about to step into ‘The Shower’ a new science fiction comedy that she is slated to produce and star in. The film, written by Jac Schaeffer, opens at a baby shower, when a sudden meteor shower turns every man on earth into a blood-thirsty alien. The women must band together to not only survive, but save the Earth.
The movie is described as a cross between ‘This Is The End,’ the all-star apocalypse film starring Seth Rogan, Jonah Hill and James Franco, and ‘Bridesmaids’ with a healthy dose of cult alien invasion film ‘Attack The Block’.
Hathaway stated:
“Jac has written an awesome sci-fi comedy centered around funny, fully dimensional female characters. I feel so lucky to be a part of the team that will bring her enormously talented and fresh voice to the big screen.”
The feeling is mutual as Schaeffer raved about his leading lady:
“Anne is the perfect actor to anchor a story that is ultimately about female friendship, with a lot of ass-kicking along the way.”
For now, those friends are un-cast. The film is seeking to fill out the cast and find a director before courting a specific studio or financiers. Both Hathaway and Schaeffer are co-producing with Adam Shulman (Hathaway’s husband), Andrew Lauren and D.J. Gugenheim. Lauren is the head of Andrew Lauren Productions, while Gugenheim is its president of production. This is the company’s first attempt at a potential big-budget hit, having previously produced smaller independent films.
Hathaway has proven quite versatile in her film roles, anchoring both dramas, period pieces and of course big-budget hits like ‘Interstellar’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. She’s also shown a penchant for comedy, after hosting the Academy Awards and Saturday Night Live. She’ll next appear in ‘Colossal!’ a giant monster movie.
Are you ready to see Hathaway and some gal pals battling for their lives and to save the world? Will it measure up to ‘Ghostbusters’?
