There are some big surprises in store about the villains in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ and J.J. Abrams is releasing some of the details in the most recent issue of Empire Magazine. In it we find out a little bit about Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren, more on the mysterious character that Andy Serkis will be playing, and the mindset of those currently running what was once The Empire. Some of these might be considered spoilers though I’ll let you be the judge as to if you want to continue or not.

First up is the big misconception that each and every one of us have had about Kylo Ren. The man who is wearing Darth Vader inspired gear and rocking the most outrageous lightsaber to be shown on screen to date is in fact not a Sith. That’s right folks, while Ren is obsessed with Luke’s father he actually “works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.”

Who is this Snoke that we haven’t seen anything about quite yet? Well, we already know that Andy Serkis is playing him as he’ll be doing full on performance-captured digital work to bring this character to life. While he’ll also be voicing the character the actual performance-capture hints that he won’t be human. That being said, it sounds as if Snoke is the new head honcho who is following in Emperor Palpatine’s footsteps.

So how did this unknown end up putting The Empire back together after their terrible losses? Abrams actually ended up basing the idea off of some of the most infamous villains in our actual history.

“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again? What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”

So instead of shattering and breaking apart after their leader died, we see the villains regrouping with the same agenda as well as a new purpose of crushing the rebellion that is sweeping across their galaxy. These folks don’t believe they are the bad guys anymore than the rebellion does. They most likely believed that they were paving the way for galactic stability after the Clone Wars tore the galaxy apart.

It will be interesting to see how the First Order ends up being portrayed on the big screen when ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ drops.
